Send Me

This is Part 3 of 3 of Lesson 13: Here Am I; Send Me: The Prophet Isaiah. Click here to go to the introduction to this study.

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.”

Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”

I said, “Here I am. Send me.”   Isaiah 6:6-8 (NLT)

The last two sections have dealt with Isaiah’s reaction to his amazing vision of the Lord in His glory, and also to the angel’s ‘live coal’ purification.

We now turn our attention to how Isaiah respond’s to God’s invitation. The first thing that is noticeable is the speed at which Isaiah ’signs up’. It is no co-incidence that the call to service comes after God’s cleansing of Isaiah. We are not saved and then left to be content on our own – there’s work to be done.

The study guide has the following to say:

Isaiah volunteers before he even knows his assignment. Why? What sets apart those who undertake God’s work willingly from those who are reluctant (Ps. 51:12, 13; Mark 5:18–20)? absg-t p157.

“Those who are the partakers of the grace of Christ will be ready to make any sacrifice, that others for whom He died may share the heavenly gift. They will do all they can to make the world better for their stay in it. This spirit is the sure outgrowth of a soul truly converted.”
—Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ, p. 78.

Once again, we’ll be interested in your views in the comments / questions section below.

Otherwise God bless and have a great week…

  • 1. Do you think that the ‘Here I am. Send me.’ attitude is only for missionaries, pastors and ministers?

    2. It’s one thing to pray ‘Here I am. Send me.’ But what do we need to do in a practical sense to follow up on our commitment?

  • On #2, I think we need to be truly open to go where God leads. This requires us to ‘count the cost’ before asking God to send us.
